Our Mission

The Emergency Medicine Interest Group of SUNY Upstate Medical University, College of Medicine exists to increase interest and awareness in emergency medicine among medical students of all levels. It is our goal to provide information and skills so that students will be better prepared for their clerkships, the residency application process, and their careers.

Emergency medicine is a growing field. Millions of Americans utilize the emergency department each year. A large fraction of those utilize the emergency department for their primary care. This is a trend that continues to grow every year. The emergency medicine faculty at Upstate are very enthusiastic about teaching and are very supportive of the EMIG. The EMIG encourages students to get to know the faculty and form lasting relationships that will assist them later in their careers. Collaborations amongst members and emergency medicine faculty promote research but they also teach students invaluable skills earlier. It is our hope that through these steps the EMIG will not only achieve the goals of individual students, but will advance the field of emergency medicine as a whole.
